2016 is off and running…can you believe that February is here already? As we double check the status of our New Year’s resolutions, we also should remember that this month is American Heart Month, and is the perfect time to make sure we are practicing healthy habits that we promised ourselves at the beginning of the year!

Certified master life coach, motivational speaker, and personal trainer Laura Posada recently teamed up with Wonderful Pistachios to encourage healthy living among Latinos. Below are a few of her tips for staying on track with your 2016 resolutions and goals! Let’s all keep these in mind as we continue our journey to healthy living!

  1. Slow and Steady Wins the Race: Yes, we’d all like to look like Sofía Vergara by day two of our new workout regime, but let’s face the facts, it takes time, hard work, and dedication to get truly visible results. Set attainable, realistic fitness objectives early in the year, jot them down for a visual reminder, and develop a game plan to get you there at your own pace.
  2. Avoid Temptation at All Cost: We all know how easy it is to give into daily cravings, which is why it’s imperative to carry a healthy snack with you at all times. Wonderful Pistachios’ 100-calorie pack is the perfect option for your everyday snacking.
  3. Tweet, share and re-post it: The more people you tell about your health and fitness goals, whether that be quitting smoking, cutting out junk food, or going to the gym at least three days a week, the more you’ll be held accountable for them. Beyond those tips, I was very interested to learn some specific stats about nuts and heart health! Scientific evidence suggests but does not prove that eating 1.5 ounces per day of most nuts, such as pistachios and almonds, as part of a diet low in saturated fat and cholesterol may reduce the risk of heart disease. Pistachios are a great choice for snack time because they offer protein, fiber, potassium, and healthy fats, which are good for heart health. Additionally, nearly 90 percent of fats in pistachios are the healthy, unsaturated type.
