Gringas Favorites: Vixen Workout & Class Package Giveaway
Since I discovered my love for dancing to Latin music, I’ve always tried to incorporate some type of baile into my workout routines. It is the best way for me burn those calories and have fun at the same time! I did Zumba for several years and then tried a few hip-hop classes here or there, but for the last few years, I haven’t found THAT class that inspired me to get back to the gym. Well…all that changed when I found the Vixen Workout!
A few months ago, a friend invited me to try out the class, which she described as a “twerk out” class. I have to admit, I was intimidated at first, and slightly judgmental…I don’t twerk! How could that be a workout?! Well, curiosity got the best of me and I ventured to the gym on a Thursday evening for my first Vixen workout. After the initial shock of walking into a workout room that felt more like a club (its usually dark with loud music and flashing lights), I started to get my groove on! Being the gringa that I am…I was sold the moment that the first (of many) Pitbull songs came on. Before I knew it, I was learning actual dance moves and sweating my culo off. When they say this is a “high-cardio” workout, they aren’t kidding! Plus, you do a mix of squats, abs, and even some arms for a total body workout!
I also really love the story behind the Vixen Workout. It was created by former Miami Heat dancer Janet Jones (that’s her in the above photo) when she wanted to create a dynamic workout that raises women’s spirits and gives them a feeling of empowerment while dancing and sweating to club music.
“When we go out to a nightclub, and all of us were feeling like we couldn’t even move because we’re someone’s mom or someone’s boss or something, and that’s when I had kind of a moment: What if I created something that lets women feel safe to let loose and dance and be a little rebellious and at the same time lose weight,” – Janet
While the class is heavy on hip-hop and Beyonce música, the Cubana/Domincana founder made sure to include plenty of Latin vibes which you know I love! I look forward to this class every week, even when I’m having a tough day! The chicas who attend the classes, or the #VixenArmy as they are known, are so full of energía and can feel the buena vibra when you walk into the gym.
