Camelia la Texana Premieres on Telemundo
While I’m not the biggest telenovelera in Miami, I do keep up with the new shows launching and love hearing about the stories behind the novelas. One of Telemundo’s new big novelas, “Camelia La Texana” has one of these interesting historias…it brings to life the story and folklore of the infamous Camelia La Texana, the legendary tale which also inspired the Los Tigre’s del Norte’s popular song, “Contrabando y Traicion.”
“Camelia La Texana” tells the story of an innocent and beautiful young woman who tries to escape her fate. Trying to run away and start a life of adventure, Camelia meets her greatest love, which also becomes her greatest betrayal: (dun…dun…duuuuun) Emilio Varela. The story was set in the 1970’s, and was filmed throughout various locations in the US and Mexico under the direction of Oscar-nominated filmmaker Carlos Bolado.
And I wasn’t kidding when I said it was a hit for Telemundo! The series, starring Sara Maldonado and Erik Hayser ranked #1 in Miami with adults 18-49, regardless of language and outperformed all four general market broadcast networks in Los Angeles and Houston, where it tied with CBS.
