Lauren Velez Stars/Produces Biopic on Cuban Singer y You Can Help Support It!
One of my favorite TV shows is Showtime’s crime thriller, Dexter. I love it not only for its nail biting suspense, engaging storytelling and quality acting, but also because it features two of my fave Latino actors in complex and interesting roles, Lauren Velez as the whip smart, sometimes conniving but always ahead of the curve Captain Maria LaGuerta and David Zayas as the good natured, good cop, Detective Angel Batista! I’m kind of a TV junkie, but I’m pretty picky (Please note: that you shouldn’t read that as meaning that I only watch “quality” shows…). So, when I find actors that I love, I tend to get really excited about any and all new projects they get involved in!
Entonces, you can imagine how pleased I was to find out that Lauren Velez is working on a new film that will showcase not only her skills, but also la vida Latina. Velez is slated to produce and star (love a woman that can hold her own in front of and behind the camera!) in a biopic depicting the life and times of Cuban Singer Guadalupe Victoria Yolí Raymond titled “They Call Me Lupe“. The production team is currently seeking support via Kickstarter with a goal of $100,000 to be raised (an absolute bargain for a movie, yay indie films!!!). You can check out a first look of the project below, and if you find it as enticing as I do, head over to their Kickstarter page and see how you can help make sure this film gets completed! There are 21 dias remaining to reach their goal and you can contribute as little as $1.00!
